How to Schedule Instagram Posts, Reels and Carousels (2026 Guide)

Posting on Instagram consistently is what grows an account, and consistency is exactly what falls apart in a busy week. Scheduling fixes that: you decide what to post once, and the posts go out on time while you work.

There are two ways to do it. Use whichever matches how much you post.

Method 1: Schedule inside the Instagram app

For an occasional post, the app is enough. Create the post, use the scheduling option in its advanced settings and pick a time. This works for feed posts and Reels on professional accounts.

The limits show up quickly: one post at a time, no calendar view of the week, and nothing for your other channels. If you also post to Facebook or TikTok, you repeat the work in every app.

Method 2: Schedule with a scheduler

A scheduler publishes through Instagram's official API. You plan everything on one calendar and the posts go out at the times you set — your phone can be off.

What you need first

Instagram only lets apps publish to professional accounts (Business or Creator). Switching is free: in Instagram, go to Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account. A personal account cannot be connected to any scheduler.

Step 1: Connect Instagram

Sign in to PostClaw with Google or GitHub — one click, no credit card. Open Channels, choose Instagram, and approve access on Meta's screen.

Step 2: Create the post

Open the Composer, pick your Instagram account and add your media. PostClaw can publish:

  • Single photos and videos to the feed
  • Reels
  • Carousels of several photos or videos
  • Stories

Write the caption, or let the AI draft it in your brand voice. Captions can be up to 2,200 characters with at most 30 hashtags; our free Instagram caption counter checks both.

Step 3: Pick a time and schedule

Choose the date and time. The post appears on the Calendar, where you can drag it to another day or edit it before it goes out.

Step 4: Reuse it on your other channels

Select Facebook, TikTok or Threads as well, and PostClaw adapts the caption for each platform instead of copying it word for word. You check every version before it is scheduled.

A simple weekly routine

  1. Monday, 30 minutes: decide five posts — one product or service, one result or review, one tip, one behind-the-scenes, one Reel.
  2. Draft them all at once. Batch writing is faster than writing daily.
  3. Schedule across the week at the hours your followers are online (Instagram Insights shows them).
  4. Reply to comments in the first hour after each post. That part should stay human.

Tips that matter more than timing

  • Lead the caption with the point. Only the first line or two shows before "more".
  • Reels reach new people; carousels keep followers. Use both.
  • Don't burst-post. Five posts a week, every week, beats ten posts in one day.

If you run a business, see how others plan their week: real estate agents, restaurants, gyms and coaches and e-commerce brands.
